McMaster has a well-deserved reputation as a centre of excellence for discovery and innovation, with research output rivalling universities more than twice its size. Consistently ranked as one of the world’s Top 100 universities and among the country’s top research-intensive universities, McMaster is home to more than 70 research centres and institutes.  The university is committed to knowledge and technology transfer, partnering with community leaders and industry, and creating a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among our researchers and students. The “McMaster Model” of problem-based learning continues to change the way professors teach and students learn at universities around the world.

McMaster University’s Office of Community Engagement was created in the summer of 2016 to engage with a growing network campus and community partners committed to collaborations that pursue McMaster’s 2016-2021 community engagement strategic plan—a first for the University. Guided by the goals of the strategic plan, the office helps to foster relationships, spark ideas for new partnerships, and build capacity for McMaster staff, students, faculty and our community partners to work together for an inclusive, sustainable greater Hamilton. This work involves coordinating a Network for Community-Campus Partnerships that includes representatives from all major units within the university, while also fostering relationships with local government, businesses, non-profit organizations, and residents. Focused on pillars of reducing barriers, capacity building, communications, and facilitating dialogue, the office is tasked with supporting and facilitating projects and initiatives oriented towards developing principled, mutually-beneficial approaches to community engagement, building bridges between the University and community, aligning partnerships to work towards community-driven needs, and assessing and evaluating the outcomes of community-campus partnerships
