{"id":12210,"date":"2014-02-13T15:00:28","date_gmt":"2014-02-13T20:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/researchimpact.ydsinc.ca\/call-for-submissions-at-cura-youth-strengths-conference-july-23-25-2014\/"},"modified":"2021-11-23T16:45:34","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T21:45:34","slug":"call-for-submissions-at-cura-youth-strengths-conference-july-23-25-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/researchimpact.ca\/fr\/archive\/call-for-submissions-at-cura-youth-strengths-conference-july-23-25-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for Submissions: AT-CURA Youth Strengths Conference, July 23-25, 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Metro Vancouver, BC, hosts SSHRC funded CURA project conference on July 23-25, 2014.<\/em><br \/>\n<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/bigtimefbapps.com\/research_impact\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/kpu-poster-cura_info1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-6370\" style=\"margin:5px;\" alt=\"AT-CURA Youth Strengths Conference poster\" src=\"http:\/\/bigtimefbapps.com\/research_impact\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/kpu-poster-cura_info1.jpg\" width=\"238\" height=\"316\" \/><\/a>Submissions due: February 28, 2014<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">What topics would be considered?<\/span><br \/>\nHere are some examples of topics that would be appropriate for the conference:<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Youth resilience<\/li>\n<li>Community engagement for violence prevention<\/li>\n<li>Using youth strengths to help at-risk youth<\/li>\n<li>Gang-prevention programs and initiatives<\/li>\n<li>Youth character strengths and well-being<\/li>\n<li>Youth violence reduction<\/li>\n<li>Youth delinquency prevention<\/li>\n<li>Programs for building youth strengths<\/li>\n<li>Relevant pedagogy \/ education \/ curriculum<\/li>\n<li>Relevant popular media research and implications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">What other criteria are important?<\/span><br \/>\nIn keeping with the conference goals, special consideration will be given to submissions that do any of the following:<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>illustrate collaboration between academics and community with a goal of promoting youth strengths to prevent violence and criminal activities such as gang involvement,<\/li>\n<li>illustrate how evidence-based research may be used to develop programs and influence policy-making to promote youth strengths to prevent violence and criminal activities including gang involvement, or<\/li>\n<li>report on evidence-based research about the relationship between youth strengths and gang\/violence prevention.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">Who should submit?<\/span><br \/>\nWe encourage submissions from researchers, policy makers, service providers, police agencies, graduate students, youth, parents, and teachers.<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">What types of submissions will you accept?<\/span><br \/>\nMost accepted submissions will take place in 50 minute sessions or in a special poster session.\u00a0 The following types of submissions are encouraged:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Interactive workshop:<\/b> Interactive workshops will involve extensive audience interaction and training in particular skills.<\/li>\n<li><b>Themed collaboration (symposium):<\/b> A themed collaboration will involve a number of presenters who will be recruited and coordinated by you. Your session should allow some time for Q &amp; A or other interaction with conference participants.<\/li>\n<li><b>Panel session:<\/b> A panel session will involve a moderator and number of experts (panelists) who will be recruited and coordinated by you. The moderator will ask panelists to respond to questions on a particular theme. Conference participants should be encouraged to pose questions as well and to engage in dialogue with the panelists.<\/li>\n<li><b>Facilitated conversation:<\/b> A facilitated conversation is similar to a panel session, but will involve less focus on the experts and a stronger role for the moderator in facilitating two way interaction between the panelists and conference participants.<\/li>\n<li><b>Individual talk:<\/b> Individual talks will be 10-15 minutes long.
