{"id":12262,"date":"2013-04-24T09:59:09","date_gmt":"2013-04-24T13:59:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/researchimpact.ydsinc.ca\/kmbuddies-for-life-des-amis-mobilises-pour-la-vie\/"},"modified":"2021-11-23T16:41:07","modified_gmt":"2021-11-23T21:41:07","slug":"kmbuddies-for-life-des-amis-mobilises-pour-la-vie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/researchimpact.ca\/fr\/archive\/kmbuddies-for-life-des-amis-mobilises-pour-la-vie\/","title":{"rendered":"KMbuddies for Life \/ Des amis mobilis\u00e9s pour la vie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Johnny, RIR YorkU<br \/>\n<em>Michael Johnny reflects on his seven year working relationship in knowledge mobilization with Joaquin Trapero from University of Victoria.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Michael Johnny t\u00e9moigne de sept ann\u00e9es de travail en mobilisation des connaissances en collaboration avec Joaquin Trapero de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Victoria.<\/em><br \/>\nI had to look back to see, but the first communication was an email on February 16, 2006.\u00a0 It was an introductory email from Joaquin Trapero, the new Knowledge Transfer Specialist at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/\">University of Victoria<\/a>.\u00a0 So it makes his career in KMb span over seven years.\u00a0 And now because of the formal launch of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uvic.ca\/research\/partner\/index.php\">Research Partnership and Knowledge Mobilization<\/a> (RPKM) office at the University of Victoria, Dr. Joaquin Trapero no longer has KMb within his portfolio of responsibility.\u00a0 It has been a few years since he has worked as a KT Specialist, moving on to manage the Institutional Portfolio program.\u00a0 Now this is his full-time responsibility.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-5887\" style=\"margin:5px;\" title=\"Prairie dogs at the University of Saskatchewan\" alt=\"Picture of prairie dogs at the University of Saskatchewan\" src=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/04\/prairie-dogs.jpg?w=300\" width=\"281\" height=\"211\" \/><br \/>\nI had wanted to write this blog for almost four days now, and even now while I write, I am staring at the screen looking for words to capture my feelings.\u00a0 I remember very clearly the early days of this journey and our work together where we\u2019d meet four times a year\u2013 twice here in Toronto and twice in Victoria.\u00a0 Our <a href=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.wordpress.com\/2009\/01\/14\/researchimpact-ipm-grant-extension\/\">Intellectual Property Mobilization<\/a> grant supported this initial \u2018experiment\u2019 of institutional knowledge mobilization services.\u00a0 Capably led by <a href=\"https:\/\/particle.phys.uvic.ca\/~keeler\/\">Dr. Richard Keeler<\/a> (former AVP Research,\u00a0University\u00a0of Victoria) and Dr. David Phipps (Executive Director, Research Services and Knowledge Exchange, York University), <a href=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.wordpress.com\/2013\/03\/06\/knowledge-mobilization-isnt-rocket-science-or-is-it-la-mobilisation-des-connaissances-ce-nest-pas-sorcier-quoi-que\/\">Joaquin<\/a> and I were exploring what it meant to be knowledge brokers and helping lead the development of a national network.<br \/>\nSo many memories poured back over the past few days while reflecting back on seven years:\u00a0 our first Congress at University of Saskatchewan back in 2007 (which was the source of infamous beer, pizza and KMb planning talks); one of Joaquin\u2019s first trips to Toronto to visit with us (where we naively planned a day-long event which began with a breakfast at 7:30 am EST\u2026 that\u2019s 4:30 PST\u2026 oops); a decision to leave the KTS portfolio to take on UVic\u2019s Institutional Portfolio (but fortunately allowed him to retain working responsibilities in KMb);
