Harris, Lake Superior Sketch XLVII, c. 1923\" src=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/lawren-s-harris-lake-superior-sketch-xlvii-c-1923.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"151\" height=\"119\" \/><\/a>I discovered to the field of knowledge mobilization by way of biology. In my Grade 11 year of high school I was a naturalist assistant in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.ca\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;cad=rja&amp;ved=0CCMQFjAA&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ontarioparks.com%2Fenglish%2Fneys.html&amp;ei=VqAyUPWXHcP7yAHSg4GYAg&amp;usg=AFQjCNFaMmmqpLIP6sI-bDlD8U5V9vzc9A&amp;sig2=nJoa39R5SrbfzCC8oFM5-A\">Neys Provincial Park<\/a>. In this position I discovered that sharing hands-on knowledge about lichen, garter snakes and lamprey, was something that park visitors could appreciate. The ability to share the information about the wonders of the park, to transfer knowledge, was my passion. Recently, when I was writing a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csahs.uoguelph.ca\/pps\/clear_research\">clear language summary<\/a> of Dr. Hanner\u2019s work entitled \u201cGenetic calibration of species diversity among North America\u2019s freshwater fishes\u201d, he mentioned lamprey and I was immediately engaged \u2013 there is still so much to learn about fresh water ecosystems. This is one of the drivers of a knowledge mobilizer \u2013 the desire to spread information and allow people to wonder with you. \u00a0Engaging knowledge translation\u00a0and exchange may lead to co-creation of knowledge. Did some of those kids who held the garter snake go on to be biologists, working with park rangers?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/wonder-cartoon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5254 aligncenter\" title=\"Cartoon\" src=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/wonder-cartoon.jpg?w=300\" alt=\"First panel shows a person looking at a flower questioningly and reads &quot;Step One: Wonder at Something...&quot;. My work at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cmns.sfu.ca\/\">School of Communication <\/a>\u00a0at Simon Fraser University focused on technology policy and analysis. I was assigned was to write a mock SSHRC grant to fund my thesis proposal and convince a Committee that my thesis was fundable. The classic \u201cSo what? For whom?\u201d questions of knowledge mobilization were made clear to me in my first steps as a researcher. I believe that it is never too early to embed knowledge mobilization in\u00a0education!<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/shawna-reibling.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-5257\" style=\"margin:5px;\" title=\"Shawna Reibling\" src=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/shawna-reibling.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"128\" height=\"128\" \/><\/a>In my work at University of Guelph, I continue to ask \u201cSo what? and \u201cFor whom?\u201d in my work making websites to communicate knowledge. Posting event summaries, products, experiences on the internet, takes advantage of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Long_Tail#The_longer_tail_over_time\">long-tail of the internet<\/a> to ensure that knowledge makes an impact over time. Therefore many of our event products are posted online. If you miss a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theresearchshop.ca\/training\">Social Media Learning Circle event<\/a>, you can access the powerpoint online to review and share. Recently I\u2019ve passed 1000 views of my powerpoints on SlideShare, a web hosting service for online documents.<br \/>\nAn example at Univeristy of Guelph is the \u2018<em>Living healthy, well and strong in our neighbourhoods\u2019<\/em> project. The photos and findings were exhibited in the community, but\u00a0 now it is always available <a href=\"http:\/\/photovoice.drupalgardens.com\/\">online<\/a>. It has been an influence on the <a href=\"http:\/\/guelphwellbeing.ca\/\">Guelph Community Wellbeing Initiative<\/a> (GCI).<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/shawna-presenting.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-5258\" style=\"margin:5px;\" title=\"Shawna presenting\" src=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.files.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/shawna-presenting.jpg?w=225\" alt=\"\" width=\"182\" height=\"242\" \/><\/a>These are examples of the importance of sharing knowledge products \u2013 so people can find and access discoveries. <a href=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.wordpress.com\/2012\/02\/22\/mama-always-told-me\/\">Knowledge mobilization is sharing<\/a>.<br \/>\nToday I am still involved in mobilizing knowledge. I am always inviting people to wonder with me.
