La professeure Sarah Morton de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00c9dimbourg offre un atelier d\u2019une journ\u00e9e au cours duquel sont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es des m\u00e9thodologies permettant de mesurer l\u2019impact de vos recherches.<\/em><br \/>\nDavid Phipps of York University (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/researchimpact\">@researchimpact<\/a>)\u00a0has recently written about <a href=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.wordpress.com\/2012\/02\/01\/knowledge-hypocrites-les-hypocrites-de-la-connaissance\/\">Knowledge Hypocrites<\/a>.\u00a0 Well, I for one am taking action (sort of).\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t exactly call myself a bookworm, but I am taking opportunity to learn from other professionals to help inform my practice.\u00a0 Perhaps not a direct solution to David\u2019s point, but I am happy about opportunities to learn from leaders in KMb from Canada and internationally.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/sarah-morton.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3757\" title=\"Sarah Morton\" src=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/06\/sarah-morton.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"165\" \/><\/a>A recent post shared my experience attending a workshop from Peter Levesque of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knowledgemobilization.net\/\">Knowledge Mobilization Works<\/a>.\u00a0 The following week I attended a day-long session led by <a href=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.wordpress.com\/2012\/01\/25\/walking-amongst-canadas-knowledge-mobilizers-lessons-and-comparisons-from-a-visit-to-york-university-toronto\/\">Sarah Morton<\/a> (recently Dr. Sarah Morton) of the University of Edinburgh, Co-Director Communication and Knowledge Exchange within the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crfr.ac.uk\/\">Centre for Research on Families and Relationships<\/a>.\u00a0 The topic of Sarah\u2019s workshop was how to assess the impact of your research.<br \/>\nI was one of 12 present and felt I was in a unique position, whereas I am not directly involved in or leading a research project, but play a brokering role in developing research projects.\u00a0 For the purposes of the workshop I used York University\u2019s partnership with the United Way of York Region as an example (we are piloting a community knowledge broker role).\u00a0 For me, in my experience, impact is misunderstood with outcomes, or even outputs.\u00a0 So it was refreshing (and validating) for me to hear Sarah speak about a process of inputs, activities, uptake, use and impact.<br \/>\nThe significant takeaway for me was a mapping exercise which will help me working with university researchers in developing knowledge mobilization plans.\u00a0 In Sarah\u2019s research and experience, embarking on a process of examining potential assumptions and risks around the process listed above can actually help determine potential indicators around impact.\u00a0 Unlocking a procedure to support this process will help me in my brokering work.\u00a0 The fact that I can employ the tools and not have to read Sarah\u2019s dissertation makes my life somewhat easier.\u00a0 Can I declare myself hypocrisy-free?\u00a0 No, not yet, but I do prefer this active process of knowledge exchange.\u00a0 My thanks to Sarah for sharing her research and methodologies to further unpack the notion of impact in research.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Johnny, RIR-York Impact has become a significant component of the research cycle but how does one actually do this? \u00a0Dr. Sarah Morton from the University of Edinburgh offers a one-day workshop with methodologies to assess the impact of your research.
