Rejoignez l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 York et prenez position pour la mobilisation des connaissances et l&rsquo;innovation sociale dans votre universit\u00e9 et les communaut\u00e9s locales.<\/em><\/p>\n<div>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/aurora.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-3819\" style=\"margin:5px;\" title=\"UWYR Annual General Meeting in Aurora\" src=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.files.wordpress.com\/2011\/07\/aurora.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"236\" height=\"314\" \/><\/a>At 7:30 am on a Tuesday morning in the old <a href=\"http:\/\/www.auroraculturalcentre.ca\/home\">Aurora Cultural Centre<\/a> in the heart of York Region, Daniele Zanotti, CEO of United Way of York Region (UWYR) asked everyone to stand up for change.\u00a0 It was the 35<sup>th<\/sup> Annual General Meeting of UWYR and the room was filled with volunteers, board members, companies, municipal and Regional employees and UWYR staff s well as partner organizations like ResearchImpact &#8211; York.\u00a0 We were all there to approve the business of UWYR but we were also there to celebrate our collective success.<br \/>\nUWYR Region is a key institutional partner in York University&rsquo;s knowledge mobilization and social innovation strategy. Together we created <a href=\"http:\/\/www.york.unitedway.ca\/strength-investments\/\">Strength Investments<\/a> that have invested $150,000 in 6 community-citizen projects such as Building Sustainable Capacities amongst Afro-Canadian Caribbean Youth in York Region and South Asian Family Empowerment Project.\u00a0 A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.york.unitedway.ca\/pdf\/2011\/SI_recipients_descriptions.pdf\">list<\/a> of all the projects is available. Together we <a href=\"..\/2010\/10\/07\/united-way-and-york-university-launch-change-inc-to-address-complex-social-issues-in-york-region\/\">launched<\/a> Change Inc. in October and <a href=\"..\/2011\/06\/15\/kmb-press-release-mdc-communique-de-presse\/\">announced<\/a> an investment of $150,000 in Change Inc at York&rsquo;s KMb Expo on June 15. <a href=\"..\/2010\/06\/21\/york%E2%80%99s-kmb-interns%E2%80%A6-then-and-now\/\">Tammy Lowe,<\/a> one of ResearchImpact &#8211; York&rsquo;s KMb Interns now works at UWYR as a Campaign Manager, a career choice she links back to her internship.\u00a0 We have co-authored an <a href=\"http:\/\/pi.library.yorku.ca\/dspace\/handle\/10315\/6748\">article<\/a>, a meeting grant and a knowledge mobilization grant linking university and community strengths in knowledge mobilization.\u00a0 Outcomes of knowledge mobilization such as Strength Investments are social innovations.<br \/>\nYou can <a href=\"http:\/\/www.york.unitedway.ca\/pdf\/2011\/AGM_remarks_DZanotti_June2011.pdf\">read<\/a> Daniele&rsquo;s speech and while you&rsquo;re reading it, stand up for community-university collaborations that producer tangible change for communities and citizens.\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By David Phipps (ResearchImpact, York) An inspiring speech by United Way of York Region calls on all knowledge brokers and social innovators in York Region to stand up for change.
