That is, there is very little evaluation research of programs in Canada\u2026In an era of increasing solutions to homelessness, it is increasingly important to know <em>what works, why it works and for whom it works<\/em>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_422\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-422\" style=\"width: 90px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-422\" title=\"Stephen Gaetz\" src=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/gaetz_stephen2.jpg\" alt=\"Stephen Gaetz\" width=\"90\" height=\"117\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-422\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stephen Gaetz<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\nResearchImpact has a mandate to link researchers and decision makers in Victoria and Toronto but such collaborations need to be seeded in order to develop into full partnerships.  ResearchImpact is investing in collaborative research and KM projects that address social challenges that are common to the two cities.  Through a competitive process York has made a $30,000 grant to a project lead by Stephen Gaetz (York University), Bernie Pauly (University of Victoria) and their community partners Rachel Gray (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.evasinitiatives.com\/\">Eva&rsquo;s Initiatives<\/a>), Kathy Stinson (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.coolaid.org\/\">Victoria Cool Aid Society<\/a>) and Jill Clements, (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.victoria.ca\/cityhall\/cmmssn_hmlssn.shtml\">Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness<\/a>). Stephen and Bernie are joined by colleagues at York (Uzo Anucha, Stephanie Baker Collins, Michaela Hynie and Daphne Winland) and at UVic (Jutta Gutberlet, Aleck Ostry, Margo Matwychuk and Darlene Clover).<br \/>\nTheir project, <em>Ending Homelessness: \u201cWhat works and for whom?\u201d<\/em> will establish a framework for evaluating the effectiveness of programs that address ending homelessness and it has three components:<br \/>\n\u2022 Based on a review of the literature and expert consultation, develop indicators for assessing programs and practices aimed at ending homelessness;<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_425\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-425\" style=\"width: 100px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-425\" title=\"Bernie Pauly\" src=\"http:\/\/researchimpact.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/04\/sub-profiles-body-hs-pbernadette2.jpg\" alt=\"sub-profiles-body-hs-pbernadette2\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-425\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bernie Pauly<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n\u2022 Develop and test an evaluation framework for assessing the effectiveness of programs for ending homelessness<br \/>\n\u2022 Using plain language summaries, technology to enhance access to the project and dissemination using the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.homelesshub.ca\">Homeless Hub<\/a> the project will mobilize knowledge related to best practices in ending homelessness and guidelines for program evaluation in order to enhance community capacity and to allow other communities to use the evaluation methodologies developed.<br \/>\nThe project will run jointly in both cities and results made available during Fall 2009.
