It is a chance to renew existing and forge new relationships. It is also a chance to take the pulse of the Network.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Chaque ann\u00e9e, en septembre, les membres du R\u00e9seau Impact Recherche Canada (RIRC) se r\u00e9unissent pour faire un retour sur l\u2019ann\u00e9e \u00e9coul\u00e9e et planifier les suivantes. C\u2019est l\u2019occasion de renouveler les relations existantes et d\u2019en tisser de nouvelles. C\u2019est le moment aussi de prendre le pouls du R\u00e9seau.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Picture this: September 12-14, 2017. Vancouver, British Columbia. 24 research impact practitioners from 15 universities. We welcomed University of Alberta, University of Winnipeg and Dalhousie University to their first RIC annual meeting. We worked hard and dreamed big. We worked on effective management today. We dreamed about where we want to grow:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hiring a set of helping hands as the day to day work is becoming too much for even an enthusiastic group of volunteers<\/li>\n<li>Planning and advocacy to reinforce our national voice<\/li>\n<li>Going Global: connecting to international experiences of research impact, demonstrating Canada\u2019s leadership<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-13728 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/researchimpact.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RIC-AGM-1024x660.jpg\" alt=\"RIC AGM dinner group photo\" width=\"640\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/researchimpact.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RIC-AGM-1024x660.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/researchimpact.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RIC-AGM-300x193.jpg 300w, https:\/\/researchimpact.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/RIC-AGM-768x495.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Moura Quayle (UBC) and Cathy Edwards (Carleton) who facilitated us through some human centred design processes where the group determines the agenda and drives the success. This was not a routine agenda style meeting. We had to \u2013 sometimes with angst \u2013 give in to and trust the process.<\/p>\n<p>Moura and Cathy started off the meeting with an activity that asked everyone to write down the first thing that comes to mind when we think about RIC. These first thoughts are below and are an unfiltered snapshot of what RIC members are thinking about RIC. These first thoughts show an almost universal recognition of the support that RIC members, often solo practitioners in their institutions, find by interacting with their peers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enthusiasm<\/li>\n<li>Passion<\/li>\n<li>Local to global<\/li>\n<li>Collaboration for change<\/li>\n<li>Partnerships<\/li>\n<li>Community<\/li>\n<li>Safe and mutually beneficial partnership<\/li>\n<li>Great potential<\/li>\n<li>Colleagues to collaboration<\/li>\n<li>Support and fun<\/li>\n<li>Trying to find focus<\/li>\n<li>Network of networks<\/li>\n<li>New and helpful<\/li>\n<li>Light in the dark<\/li>\n<li>Connection and fun<\/li>\n<li>Work and support<\/li>\n<li>Sharing for common good<\/li>\n<li>New frontier for universities<\/li>\n<li>Responsibility<\/li>\n<li>Connection<\/li>\n<li>Shared experience<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge for the common good<\/li>\n<li>Uncertainty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Because of the number of universities and the human centred design processes this RIC annual meeting felt like a meeting of very diverse but complementary minds.
