Greetings Everyone,
We are pleased to advise that today (July 17, 2024), the Carnegie Foundation and the American Council on Education have announced a partnership with a joint venture of Canadian post-secondary institutions to establish the Canadian Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement (CCCCE). See the full announcement here: https://carnegieclassifications.acenet.edu/news/canadian-carnegie-community-engagement/.
The process of considering the Classification in Canada was guided by Elders, Traditional Knowledge Keepers, and cultural advisors who shared their wisdom and guidance throughout the journey. The four-year pilot process that contextualized the Classification for Canada purposely centered the values of reciprocity, Reconciliation, accountability, collaboration, courage, and equity, diversity and inclusion. McMaster University, Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies, Simon Fraser University and the Université de Montréal are the signers of the joint venture agreement and will serve as inaugural hosts for the Canadian Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement.
In the near term, the work of this Joint Venture of Canadian post-secondary Institutions and its management team will be as follows:
- To establish a distributed administrative and research home to support Canadian operations;
- To establish a Canadian Carnegie steering committee to provide strategic and policy guidance to operations;
- To launch a first cycle of the Canadian Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement; and
- To establish a Canadian Carnegie review panel to review and determine the classification status of applicant institutions.
Additional information about the Canadian Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement will be announced later this year.
In the meantime, a leadership position to advance the Canadian Classification through strategic planning, managerial leadership, and partnership and business development has been posted at McMaster University’s website. The position will report to the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement (CCCCE) Management Team of the Canadian Carnegie Host Joint Venture. The current close date for the position is July 27, 2024.
As this message may not have fully covered every interested party, please feel free to forward this email to contacts or networks that you think might be interested in the announcement and/or leadership position.
Kind regards,
Matthew Grant (on behalf of the Canadian Pilot Cohort and the Canadian Joint Venture)
