The University of Winnipeg made a commitment in our Strategic Directions document (2015) and Integrated Academic and Research Plan (2016-2021) to enhance the knowledge mobilization activities of our researchers. While the UWinnipeg has a long tradition of working with community in research and teaching, it is expected that we do more to communicate research results, and scholarly and creative activities, both inside and outside the institution. We see KM not only as impacting policy change at the government level, but where research is shared in a variety of ways as an exchange of ideas that make a positive impact on society and as a process of relationship building and can be initiated either by the researcher or the agency for whom the research will make a difference. Traditionally, researchers have produced valuable knowledge and creative works that have been narrowly shared among other academics in similar disciplines, either through peer-reviewed journals or at conferences specific to an academic area of study. Translating that knowledge into a format that is more accessible to a range of sectors is critical to informing policy change and advancing social innovation through engaged scholarship.
