Institutional Knowledge Mobilization Planning

On May 22, 2025, Research Impact Canada (RIC) ‘s Professional Development Committee hosted a webinar called “Institutional Knowledge Mobilization Planning.” The webinar shared findings from a recent study conducted by Dr. Stephen MacGregor, Assistant Professor, University of Calgary, that analyzed four research-intensive universities’ KMb planning documents and highlighted key features, such as stakeholder engagement, resource alignment, and strategy evaluation. The webinar explores the question, “How can institutions more intentionally support the mobilization of research knowledge?”

Participants left with insights into current approaches to institutional KMb planning, as well as practical building blocks for initiating or refining a KMb plan tailored to their own institutional context. The slide deck can be found here.

About the Presenter

Dr. Stephen MacGregor is an Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Governance at the University of Calgary’s Werklund School of Education. His research centers on knowledge mobilization as a mechanism for educational change, with an emphasis on leadership practices within increasingly complex education systems. He focuses on three interrelated strands of inquiry: (1) the relational networks among universities and secondary and elementary schools, (2) the influence of positive school leadership on the mobilization of research-informed teaching practices, and (3) the mechanisms and impacts of co-production as one approach to knowledge mobilization.
