On October 31, 2024, the FSC Community of Practice, in collaboration with Research Impact Canada and ELITE Program for Black Youth at the University of Alberta, hosted a peer learning group on “Empowering Youth in Canada: Navigating Career Prospects and Well-Being.” In this session, we discussed how to close workforce disparities among youth by equipping them with practical skills in high-demand areas of work. The goal of the peer learning group was to facilitate knowledge sharing and dialogue on the impact of entrepreneurial and resilience training to better prepare youth for higher education and career opportunities. Andre McDonald, Program Director of the ELITE Program for Black Youth and Professor, Faculty of Engineering – Mechanical Engineering Department, University of Alberta led the primer presentation.
The video recording of the presentation along with the presentation slide deck, notes from the small group discussions (Breakout room 1 and Breakout room 2), and a collection of valuable resources gathered over the course of these insightful discussions, are included here.
