Building Economic Resilience: Skills Development in Indigenous and Northern Communities

On November 18, 2025, the FSC Community of Practice, in collaboration with Research Impact Canada and EntrepreNorth, hosted a peer learning group on “Building Economic Resilience: Skills Development in Indigenous and Northern Communities.” In this session, we discussed how to meaningfully engage Indigenous and Northern communities in the workforce development and how to embed equity in skills development efforts. The goal of the peer learning group was for organizations to share their experiences, challenges, and opportunities in designing programs and initiatives that ensure that Indigenous entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs from Northern Communities have access to the skills, funding, infrastructure, and other pathways to strengthen economic resilience and self-determination. This was an opportunity for attendees to learn from one another and explore practical strategies for overcoming barriers and fostering inclusive growth in the future of work. Xina Cowan, Co-Director, EntrepreNorth, led the primer presentation.
